James Vince just tries to bash it further than Michael Carberry

Hampshire skipper James Vince's main aim for the powerplay in the NatWest T20 Blast is to hit the ball further than Michael Carberry.

Number three Vince and England opening batsman Carberry have had a huge amount of success at the top of the order in the shortest format.

And the 23-year-old right-hander insists his personal duel with Carberry will continue to bring out the best in the duo this term.

Speaking toecb.co.uk, Vince said: “I like getting in there when the powerplay’s on and myself and Carbs have been pretty successful in the last few years in the powerplay. It’s enjoyable to bat in the top six (overs), especially with him.

“We just see who can hit it the furthest, I think! For the last couple of seasons we’ve had that approach in Twenty20 cricket and one-day cricket.

“We’ve been successful so there’s no reason to change.”

The loss of all-rounder Dimi Mascarenhas represents a huge blow for Hampshire.

But Vince is confident the veteran's retirement will open a door for another member of the squad to fill the void.

He added: “It will be a big blow. He’s been unbelievable for us for the last however many years, leading the side as well.

“He’ll be a big loss but hopefully we’ve got guys who can come in and step up.”
