Grant Flower has been appointed as the new Pakistan batting coach on a two-year contract.

The 43-year-old former Essex batsman, who played 67 Tests for Zimbabwe, joins a new-look coaching set-up after Waqar Younis was reappointed chief coach earlier this month.

A Pakistan Cricket Board statement revealed Flower’s appointment, saying: “Acting on the recommendation of the coach selection committee comprising Moin Khan, Intikhab Alam and Haroon Rashid, the chairman PCB, Mr Najam Sethi, has appointed former Zimbabwe batsman Grant Flower as the batting coach for two years.

“Grant Flower shall be joining the Pakistan team on 1 August 2014.”

Flower is the brother of former England Team Director Andy Flower, who enjoyed five successful years in the post before stepping down from the role earlier this year.

After begining his contract, Flower will immediately be pressed into action with Pakistan due to arrive for their tour of Sri Lanka on August 2.
