Marcus Trescothick says teams could hit 300 in NatWest T20 Blast

Somerset skipper Marcus Trescothick is adamant a score of close to 300 is achievable at Taunton in the NatWest T20 Blast.

With the ground’s small boundaries combined with the hosts’ powerful batting line-up, which includes the destructive Trescothick, Craig Kieswetter and Peter Trego to name a few, the former England opening batsman believes anything is possible.

Asked whether the mean feat could be achieved, Trescothick told ecb.co.uk:“Yeah, I think it will. When you are looking at the likes of 50-over games, a few years ago South Africa and Australia were both getting 430.

"Of course it will match up somewhere along the line. Someone is going to get a big 280, 290, 300. I think there will. It is a matter of time.”

Jokingly, the 38-year-old added: “Bring the boundaries in even further. It would make more entertainment. We want to see lots of sixes.”

Trescothick has backed the move for Friday night’s games and is hoping the Taunton crowd get behind his team again this term.

He said: “That is what entertainment is all about. After a hard week at work, they come down and enjoy themselves, having a couple of glasses of cider and then it all gets going and kicks off a little bit! Hopefully that continues on."
