Hazlegrove Prep School Under-13s and Richmond School Under-15s, from Somerset and Yorkshire respectively, were the winners of the 2014 Lady Taverners Indoor School National Finals competition.
The tournaments at Under-13 and Under-15 levels concluded on May 2 and 7 respectively at Lord’s MCC Cricket Academy, with Hazlegrove coming out on top in the former and Richmond the latter.
Hazlegrove produced excellent batting performances to ensure they managed an impressive 463-run aggregate from their four matches, but bowling and fielding was also key with the team taking all 32 wickets in their league.
The opposition, entering through the other regions, put up a valiant effort on the day but Godolphin & Latymer from Middlesex, Yorkshire's Horizon Community College, Packwood Haugh of Shropshire and St Ivo School from Huntingdonshire shared the other four places.
U15 champions Richmond were also undefeated on the day but had great opposition in South Dartmoor Academy from Devon and Oathall College of Sussex, who finished second and third respectively.
The other two finalists were Shropshire's Ellesmere College and Thomas Gainsborough of Suffolk, who both scored over 300 runs on the day – an achievement that epitomised the spirit and type of cricket on display during the entire tournament.
This year was the 11th that the competition has been funded by the Lady Taverners and 2014 boasted an increase of 15 per cent for entries across the Under-15 age group in England and Wales, with over 1,400 school teams taking part in the competition.
