New England Head Coach Peter Moores believes Graham Gooch will still have a role to play with England despite his departure as Test batting coach.
Gooch has been involved in the England set-up since November 2009 and, with 118 Tests to call upon, Moores still wants to tap into the 60-year-old’s vast experience.
“I think he’ll still be involved,” Moores told ecb.co.uk.
“I think it is time to move forward maybe on the day-to-day basis, but he’s got a great relationship with so many of the players and that’s key.
“Top-flight batters, it’s a bit like golfers, you have people that you like to work with who know your swing.
“Graham knows that and there is no reason why that work can’t still carry on.
“We can still get his support and knowledge but that changes a little bit as we move forward and I think that’s the right time.”
