Chesney Hughes cannot wait for rocking Friday nights at the 3aa County Ground as NatWest T20 Blast fever sets in this summer.
There is excitement aplenty around the country at the moment as teams gear up for the reformatted competition that starts on May 16.
One of the main innovations is Friday night games, when it is hopes spectators will turn out in droves and create the kind of carnival atmosphere the shortest form craves.
Hughes, Derbyshire’s big-hitting left-hander, is one of those readying himself for what should be a cracking campaign.
“There has been a lot of hype about the Friday nights and hopefully we can get some decent crowds out at Derby,” he told ecb.co.uk.
“The fans coming out and supporting the boys will be nice. I am excited about the nights; it should be good.
“T20 is the most exciting format; there is a good crowd and music about. I am looking forward to playing well.”
Hughes is setting his sights high, stating his belief that Derbyshire can follow in defending champions Northants Steelbacks' footsteps by proving unfancied victors.
“We know that we are good enough to win the competition,” he added. “We have got experience in the squad and good young players; it’s a really balanced team.
“It’s T20 cricket, where anything can happen. We can definitely take down some of the bigger sides in this competition.”
