Captain Glen Chapple will coach Lancashire for the rest of the season after Peter Moores left the club to become England Head Coach.

Moores last Saturday returned to the role he previously held from April 2007 to January 2009 and took charge of Lancashire for the last time in this week's LV= County Championship draw with Warwickshire at Emirates Old Trafford, during which seamer Chapple took his 900th first-class wicket for the Red Rose.

Chapple, a level four qualified coach who will be supported by former Lancashire spinner Gary Yates, will have responsibility for the first-team squad while continuing to play.

Chapple spoke to ecb.co.uk this month about representing his sole county at the age of 40.

In addition to that interview, he exclusively told this website: "I've done quite a bit of coaching this winter, both at the club and I was fortunate enough to be involved in an ECB programme as well.

“I really enjoyed doing some coaching and look forward to doing some more in the future.

On April 4 Glen Chapple, left, told ecb.co.uk: "I really enjoyed doing some coaching and look forward to doing some more in the future."

"Having worked with all the lads throughout the winter you see their potential and I believe that everyone in the squad can have an impact on the season.

“There's no way of knowing who those players are going to be at any time because we have got a competitive squad, but it's where you want to be as a big club."

In a Lancshire statement today, cricket director Mike Watkinson said: “It is crucial that we minimise the disruption to the cricket department while we are in the middle of an important run of matches and therefore we need to ensure that we have continuity and provide support, leadership and resources to help us achieve our aims and objectives.

“In his position as club captain, Glen Chapple, will have responsibility for the first team squad. Gary Yates will support Glen and spend the vast majority of his time around the first team squad.

“The club are actively looking to have an additional coaching resource in place as soon as possible, whose primary role will be working with the second XI along with other coaching duties.

“Academy director/player development manager John Stanworth will support the second XI for the forthcoming fixtures but fundamentally his role will remain unchanged.”
