YB40, June 16: As it happened

RESULT! Gloucestershire Gladiators (229/6) beat Yorkshire Vikings (193) by 36 runs in a 27-over-per-side game - David Payne finishes with fine figures of 4-44 as the Gladiators emerge triumphant.

And with that, another eventful day of Yorkshire Bank 40 action comes to an end.

RESULT! Netherlands (92/4) beat Worcestershire Royals (90/6) by six wickets in an 18-overs-per-side game - Good innings from Cooper, whose cool 29 not out sees the Netherlands to victory.

 

RESULT! Somerset (127/5) beat Leicestershire Foxes (124) by five wickets - Nick Compton completes a victory that extends Somerset’s advantage at the summit of Group C with a six off Rob Taylor.

 

7:25pm - Yorkshire's hopes of victory have likely been ended by two quick wickets, but the Netherlands - anchored by Tom Cooper's 21 not out - are on the verge of beating Worcestershire.

 

RESULT! Lancashire Lightning (230/8) beat Essex Eagles (166) by 64 runs - Essex managed more than the 20 they were dismissed for in the LV= County Championship clash between the sides this week but still lost heavily to relinquish top spot in Group B.

 

RESULT! Notts Outlaws (243/4) beat Warwickshire Bears (238/7) by six wickets - A brilliant 129 not out from Samit Patel, supported by Chris Read's unbeaten 23, helps Notts to their sixth YB40 victory in as many matches this year. Impressive stuff.

 

RESULT! Northamptonshire Steelbacks (191/6) beat Sussex Sharks (128) by 63 runs in a 39-over-per-side game - Azhar Ullah claims the final wicket of Craig Liddle to seal a comfortable victory for the Steelbacks.

 

7:14pm - After ousting Foster, Tom Smith then got rid of Napier. Kabir is now in on the act with David Masters' departure leaving the Lightning a wicket from emerging triumphant.

 

7:08pm - Yorkshire lose Hodgson for an impressive 76 soon after Joe Sayers departs; they now need 88 from seven overs with six wickets in hand.

 

Essex are seven down following James Foster's departure, with Northants one wicket from victory versus Sussex.

 

It could be an intriguing finish at New Road, where the Netherlands are 60 for four chasing 91 with seven overs remaining. 

 

7:04pm - Somerset lose their third and fourth wickets, Nathan Buck removing Craig Kieswetter for 50 and Dean Elgar cheaply, but still on course to win.

 

Sussex and Essex are further behind the eight-ball in their chases, the Sharks losing Ben Brown for 40 and Will Beer in quick succession with the Eagles seeing Jaik Mickleburgh go to Kabir Ali.

 

6:52pm - Sussex's recovery is halted as Michael Yardy is bowled by David Willey, leaving Sussex 106 for six.

 

Notts, for whom Samit Patel has just reached a fine century from 110 balls, had earlier lost Ed Cowan cheaply to a run-out.

 

Netherlands are two down cheaply versus Worcestershire, openers Wesley Barresi and Stephan Myburgh going to Alan Richardson and Moeen respectively.

 

6:40pm - The Red Rose are now favourites at Chelmsford as Chapple traps Owais Shah lbw for 42, while Notts lose their third wicket when Darry Maddy dismisses Taylor for 46.

 

Yorkshire, meanwhile, are staying in the hunt on the back of youngster Dan Hodgson's quick half-century.

 

6:30pm - Lancashire are right back into it against Essex, Parry adding the scalp of Ryan ten Doeschate.

 

David proves a pain - David Payne that is - when ousting Adam Lyth to leave Yorkshire two down.

6:22pm - Rutherford does not go on as he might have hoped, hitting Stephen Parry to deep midwicket for 63. Taylor and Patel's partnership moves beyond three figures and Notts look on course to make it six wins out of six.

 

Worcestershire could only manage 90 for six in 18 overs versus the Netherlands, Thilan Samaraweera batting through the innings for 47.

 

6:16pm  - Shiv Thakor has got rid of Peter Trego, but Somerset will be extremely confident of their small chase.

 

Samit Patel has moved beyond 50, while James Taylor is approaching a half-century in Nottinghamshire's 130 for two. 

 

Hamish Rutherford also has a fifty, striking two sixes in three deliveries - the second of which flew out of the ground - off Simon Kerrigan to leave Essex in a good position.

 

6pm - Yorkshire make a poor start in their chase as the in-form Andrew Gale falls quickly to Will Gidman.

 

5:53pm - Essex and Notts are rebuilding nicely after losing two early wickets, the former on to 61 and the latter 95.

 

Sussex, though, are now five down with Rory Hamilton-Brown picking out mid-off to give Lee Daggett a wicket.

 

5:49pm - Worcestershire slip further into the mire; they are 35 for six with Moeen, Kervezee, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Fell, Aneesh Kapil and Ben Cox all back in the hutch.

 

Leicestershire have been dismissed for 124 by Somerset.

 

5:41pm - Gloucestershire manage 229 for six, which is quite an effort in just 27 overs.

 

5:38pm - Worcestershire are in quite a big hole now at 28 for four, while Gloucestershire are 220 for six with one overs left after Wardlaw gets rid of Benny Howell and James Fuller in quick succession.

 

5:30pm - Sussex find themselves four down before reaching double figures, Crook striking again when bowling Ed Joyce.

 

Leicestershire are now 90 for eight versus Somerset, with Gloucestershire on course for an excellent total in their 28-over game versus the Yorkshire Vikings.

 

5:22pm - Notts Outlaws, who have won all five of their games in this year's competition, are two down pursuing 239 after in-form Michael Lumb was bowled by  Rikki Clarke.

 

They are in nowhere near the strife Sussex are, however. Chasing 192, the Sharks have been reduced to one for three with Chris Nash, Luke Wright and Luke Wells all departing; Steven Crook claimed two of the wickets to fall.

 

Alexei Kervezee has gone cheaply to leave Worcestershire two down in their shortened game.

 

5:10pm - RESULT! Scottish Saltires (92 all out) lose to Durham Dynamos by seven wickets - Stokes completes the formalities at the Emirates Durham ICG with a trio of fours.

 

The match between Worcestershire and the Netherlands is finally under way as an 18-overs-per-side contest at New Road and Vivian Kingma has dismissed Pears dangerman Moeen Ali without scoring in his first over.

 

Chris Dent hit four sixes and as many fours in his 40-ball 56 for Gloucestershire, but Liam Plunkett removed him. Ben Coad getting rid of Alex Gidman for a duck next over means the hosts' progress has been checked on 168 for four with seven of their 27-over allocation remaining.

 

Essex look certain to get more than 20 against Lancashire this afternoon. They're already on 18, but Chapple is at it again with the wickets of Tom Westley and Mark Pettini. Remember, the veteran returned figures of 5-9 on Friday.

 

4:57pm - It looks like Leicestershire are going to outstrip Scotland in the dubious terms of a collective batting failure. Meschede removed Joe Burns and Rob Taylor with consecutive balls and, after three overs, he has remarkable figures of 4-1.

 

4:55pm - Oliver Hannon-Dalby has bowled Alex Hales for six and Nottinghamshire are 13 for one in pursuit if Warwickshire's 238 for seven.

 

4:50pm - Leicestershire's problems show no sign of letting up. Shiv Thakor is the latest man back in the pavilion, although a four and a six from Michael Thornley have moved their socre to 49 for five.

 

Klinger's fun is over in Bristol. Iain Wardlaw rearranged his stumps five runs shy of a half-century. Gloucestershire are 126 for two after 15.4 overs of 27.

 

Two of Durham's wicket-takers from earlier on are together now. Scott Borthwick's departure to Richie Berrington means Stokes and Collingwood are the men in.

 

4:41pm - Northants make 191 for six in their allocated 39 overs against Sussex.

 

4:36pm - Lancashire close their innings on 230 for eight. The tail wagged nicely with skipper Glen Chapple and left-arm spinner Stephen Parry adding an unbroken 29 off the last 15 balls, finishing on 22 and 14 respectively.

 

Things are becoming a real struggle for the Foxes down at Taunton. Peter Trego has Matthew Boyce cheaply and the score is 23 for four.

 

Calum McLeod pinned Stoneman for 22 and Durham are 57 for two chasing 92 to win.

4:32pm - Kabir's run-a-ball 20 ended in the gloves of James Foster off ten Doeschate and Lancashire are 218 for eight heading into the last.

 

Gloucestershire skipper Michael Klinger is flying against Yorkshire. He's on 35 from 23, with a pair of sixes and four other boundaries. Adil Rashid earlier removed Hamish Marshall for a breezy 27 but the hosts are 76 for one in that rain-reduced clash. 

 

4:28pm - Wakely has moved to 63 and his sixth-wicket stand with Ben Duckett is worth 64 to Northants, who are 167 for five in the 37th over.

 

 

Scotland's Gordon Goudie dismissed Phil Mustard for 15 at the Emirates Durham ICG, but the in-form Mark Stoneman is flying on 21 from 15 balls and the hosts are past halfway in their victory chase.

 

Leicestershire are struggling early on against Somerset, slumping to 22 for three after six overs. Thomas made Josh Cobb his second scalp and Craig Meschede's first set of six accounted for Greg Smith.

 

4:16pm - Lancashire and Warwickshire are both seven wickets down as their innings come towards a conclusion. Katich departs for 60, with Ryan ten Doeschate the successful bowler, and the score is 191 for seven after 36.

 

Kabir Ali has announced himself with some lusty hitting for the Red Rose and Bears lower-order man Ateeq Javid is doing likewise. He's on 21 from 14 balls. Actually, that's a wrap for Warwickshire, who finish on 238 for seven after Steffan Piolet helped Gurney complete figures of 3-41.

 

4:07pm - Alfonso Thomas has the breakthrough for Somerset as Niall O'Brien departs for no score while, at Trent Bridge, Tim Ambrose is run out for a well-made 55.

 

Durham are not hanging around in their pursuit of 92 and are 16 without loss. 

 

4:04pm - Alex Wakely is through to his own half-century and Northants have eight overs remaining against Sussex to add to 137 for five.

 

Somerset won the toss and elected to field in their 25-over dash against Leicestershire and veteran seamer Steve Kirby responded by sending down a maiden.

 

4pm - Gareth Cross will have been key to Lancashire's plans to accelerate down the stretch but he holes out to mid-on for 29 after hitting Graham Napier for back-to-back fours.

 

3:54pm - Maddy goes, caught by Mullaney off Gurney, but his 33-ball 56 is an absolute gem of a knock that sets Warwickshire up for a final assault. They are 201 for five with five overs remaining.

 

Katich is through to a rather more sedate half-century and Lancashire are 154 for five at Chelmsford.

 

Gloucestershire have started positively after losing the toss against Yorkshire and are 14 without loss after two overs.

 

3:50pm - Sensationally, Darren Maddy has beaten Ambrose to fifty. After hitting the final two balls of the 33rd over from Gurney for six and four, the Warwickshire all-rounder blasted four consecutive fours off Jake Ball. 

 

3:40pm - The game between Gloucestershire and Yorkshire at Bristol will be under way in 10 minutes and is reduced to 27 overs per side.

 

3:35pm - Scotland's misery with the bat is complete. Collingwood accounts for last man Gordon Drummond to finish with 3-5 from nine balls to wrap up the Saltires 91 all out.

 

Beer has his second wicket, removing Northants dangerman Steven Crook cheaply and the visitors are 105 for five.

 

Gareth Cross joins Simon Katich in the middle for Lancashire, who are 118 for five after Reece Topley pinned Jordan Clark in front. The veteran Australian is unbeaten on 40 and closing in on a half-century, much like Warwickshire's Ambrose. He has a 54-ball 44, containing just one four and a 50-run alliance with Darren Maddy has moved the Bears to 157 for four with 49 balls remaining.

 

3:24pm - Durham skipper Paul Collingwood is in on the act with two wickets in his first over! Matthew Cross is bowled for 12 before Ruaidhri Smith departs in similar fashion without troubling the scorers. As a result, Scotland slump to 78 for nine.

 

Northants are 98 for four in the 24th over of their innings at Arundel. Matthew Spriegel was the last man to go, trapped lbw by Will Beer.

3:15pm - Rikki Clarke and Tim Ambrose were ticking the scoreboard over nicely for Warwickshire but the former is out to give Samit Patel his first wicket of the afternoon.

 

Scotland are seven down - Michael Leask gone for four as Ben Stokes gets among the wickets.

 

3:05pm - Wood has another and the end could be nigh for Scotland as Latham departs for a 49-ball 30. The score is 58 for six in the 18th over.

 

Rob Keogh is run out for 14 and Northants are 82 for three at the start of the 19th.

 

Tentatively good news from Taunton where, if there is no further rain, Somerset and Leicestershire will lock horns at 4pm.

2:54pm - Former Lancashire paceman Sajid Mahmood is into the Essex attack and has a wicket with his second ball. Croft cut his opening effort for four but Mahmood then found the shoulder of the bat and Jaik Mickleburgh pouched the catch. The visitors are wobbling a little on 65 for three and Tom Smith is in at five.

2:44pm - Troughton is out for 36, caught and bowled off the first ball of a Steven Mullaney wicket-maiden. Warwickshire are 73 for two in the 17th.

Fifty up for Northants and Lancashire. They're both 52 for two.

2:40pm - An important breakthrough for Essex as Prince advances down the track to send Masters to deep midwicket. He made 31.

Northants are also embarking upon a rebuilding job after the loss of both openers to Chris Nash. The Sussex off-spinner has figures of 2-5 after a pair of overs.

Scotland have lost another. Moneeb is the third man in succession to be dismissed for a duck and it's 40 for five. Wood's figures certainly demonstate a useful start to his afternoon's work: 2-1-2-2.

2:32pm - Triple blow for Scotland at the Emirates Durham ICG. Mark Wood rounded off a tidy opening over by removing Richie Berrington for 15 before Onions saw off both Calum MacLeod and Saltires skipper Preston Mommsen without scoring in as many balls. Moneeb Iqbal survived the hat-trick ball but the visitors are struggling on 39 for four. Much of their hopes now rest on Latham, who remains unbeaten on 21.

2:28pm - Troughton and Varun Chopra have brought up their fifty partnership at better than a run a ball. The duo have 31 and 22 respectively and Warwickshire are 61 for one after 11 overs.

2:26pm - Just to recap, we have four matches in progress with no action possible as yet at Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Somerset. 

2:21pm - Masters strikes! Stephen Moore departs bowled for 11 and Steven Croft joins Prince. The South African is 22 not and Lancashire are 35 for one in the 10th.

2:18pm - Skipper Jim Troughton is putting his foot down for the Bears. He's on 26 from 22 balls, with 16 coming in boundaries. Notts responded by bringing Ajmal Shahzad into the attack and the visitors are 47 for one after nine.

2:12pm - Warwickshire and Scotland have made composed recoveries from their early losses and are 30 for one and 25 for one respectively.

Northants are 18 without loss after four overs against Sussex. Kyle Coetzer has hogged the strike to score 17 of those, with opening partner David Willey yet to score from four deliveries.

2:05pm - Prince is into his stride at Chelmsford. He took eight runs from the final three balls of Masters' last over to move to 16 from 19 deliveries. Of Lancashire's 23 without loss, Masters has leaked 19.

2:03pm - It's really coming down at New Road, where they've sent for extra covers.

2pm - It's game on at Arundel. Northants three for no loss in the first.

1:55pm - Onions gets his reward as Freddie Coleman departs caught behind without scoring. 

Warwickshire are also one down - Will Porterfield bowled for four by Harry Gurney. Lancashire are 11 for nought after three overs.

1:50pm - Graham Onions tied Scotland up with a maiden first up but Tom Lathan responded by sending Chris Rushworth's first delivery to the fence.

That's our only boundary so far, with Warwickshire two without loss from as many overs against Notts and the match between Worcestershire and the Netherlands adding itself to the rain-delayed category without a ball being bowled.

1:47pm - Ashwell Prince, who forgoes his usual middle order role in this format, has started confidently for Lancashire, cutting David Masters' first ball of the match for three. Those two had a lively exchange of views during the championship match earlier this week, so we'll keep an eye on that one!

1:45pm - Encouraging news from Arundel, where the rain has ceased. Play will start at 2pm, when Northants will bat after Sussex won the toss. The match is reduced to 39 overs per side.

1:40pm - So, five minutes from the scheduled start of today's matches it looks like we will get under way on time at Trent Bridge, New Road, Chelmsford and the Emirates Durham ICG, while rain will delay matters at Sussex, Gloucestershire and Somerset.

1:24pm - So not the best news from Arundel, where rain played a huge part in Sussex and Surrey contesting a championship draw this week but we are going to get some cricket on schedule.

Warwickshire have won the toss and elected to bat against the Notts Outlaws, with Scotland opting to do likewise versus hosts Durham.

Perhaps mindful of Friday afternoon's nightmare with the bat, Essex have asked Lancashire to post a total.

1:10pm – There is particular intrigue at Chelmsford this afternoon, where Group B leaders Essex will look to call upon their impressive one-day form against Lancashire and find a response two days on from sensationally being bowled out for 20 on their own patch in the LV= County Championship by the Red Rose.
