Adil Rashid reached the eighth hundred of his first-class career and third in as many games against Somerset as Yorkshire finished in a healthy position on day two at Taunton.

Resuming on an unbeaten 84 after Sunday's opening day, all-rounder Rashid reached three figures in 167 balls and went on to 108 before edging Craig Overton behind to wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter.

Adil Rashid hit 18 fours in his 108, that helped Yorkshire post a strong first-innings total against Somerset at TauntonRashid and Andy Hodd had piled another 60 runs to their sixth-wicket stand as Yorkshire moved from 342 for five at the start of the day to 402, before Hodd was caught by Marcus Trescothick at second slip off Overton for 55.

Rashid made his exit two overs later, but Liam Plunkett put up solid resistance in the Yorkshire tail, recovering from being put down by Craig Meschede at mid-on to record 19 before he ran out of partners. Jack Brooks, looking to pull to the boundary, departed lbw to Johann Myburgh for six, leaving the visitors 450 all out, a lower total than they would have fancied at the start of Monday's play.

Somerset set about chasing that healthy first-innings target but suffered a setback when Trescothick had his off stump removed by former England team-mate Ryan Sidebottom for 20 in the 10th over.

Fellow opener Chris Jones was in a more defiant mood, reaching 75 as part of a 91-run second wicket stand with Nick Compton, which ended when Compton was removed by Plunkett for 32, leaving the hosts on 127 for two.

Jones lasted another six overs – during which time he was struck on the helmet by Plunkett - before chasing one down the leg side and offering Alex Lees a catch at leg slip off Plunkett.

Fourth-wicket pair Alviro Petersen and James Hildreth - on 12 not out and 16 not out respectively - batted through to the close as Somerset ended the day on 166 for three from 57 overs.
