Division One
Defending champions Durham are 265 for fiveversus promoted Northamptonshire at Wantage Road where Michael Richardson hit 80.
Nottinghamshire are 315 for eightagainst Middlesex at Lord’s with James Harris and Steven Finn sharing the wickets.
Sussex were 229 all out on the back of captain Ed Joyce’s 117 after skittling Warwickshire for 87 at Edgbaston.
Yorkshire are 342 for five facing Somerset at Taunton, Adam Lyth striking 85 and Adil Rashid 84 not out.
Division Two
Derbyshire are 139 for five, aided by Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s unbeaten 66, in reply to Essex’s paltry 94 in which Mark Footitt and Tim Groenewald split the wickets, the latter bagging a hat-trick at Chelmsford.
Gloucestershire are 292 for five versus Hampshire at Bristol, Will Tavare ending on 135 not out on his senior debut.
Kent are 39 for two, responding to Worcestershire’s 224 at New Road.

6.42pm –All the action is now over for the day as Sussex are dismissed for 229 by Warwickshire, who posted 87, and Derbyshire reach 139 for five, of which Chanderpaul has 66, in response to Essex’s 94. We’ll round up the scores soon.

6.24pm – Stumps have also been drawn at Lord’s and New Road where respectively Notts are 315 for eight against Middlesex and Kent are 39 for two in reply to Worcestershire’s 224.

6.13pm – The action is drawing to a close for the day and indeed it’s stumps at Wantage Road, Taunton and Bristol. Durham are 265 for six versus Northants with Mustard unbeaten on 62, Yorkshire are 242 for five facing Somerset, Rashid on 84, and Gloucestershire are 292 for five against Hampshire, Tavare 135 not out.
Where play continues Peter Siddle falls for a brisk 40 on his Notts debut, Warwickshire’s Clarke strikes again by snaring James Anyon for nought and Sam Northeast follows Kent skipper Key back to the pavilion for 18.
5.59pm – Derbyshire, who now lead Essex, have a half-centurion in Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Gloucestershire’s Gidman is gone for 55, caught behind off Sean Ervine. Kent captain Rob Key is lbw to Jack Shantry for 11 and Ben Brown can muster just one more for Sussex before departing to Keith Barker.

Steven Finn has a fourth scalp when Wessels edges to second slip on 58, leaving Notts 259 for seven.
In Division Two Will Gidman contributes a fifty for Gloucestershire and Graham Napier bowls Chesney Hughes for the 14th wicket of the day at Chelmsford where Derbyshire are 91 for four, three behind on first innings.

4.59pm – After a quiet post-tea period, a flurry of activity!
Northants’ James Middlebrook gets Michael Richardson caught behind for 80, halting an alliance worth 95 with Phil Mustard who soon completes a fifty, as does Notts’ Riki Wessels.
Warwickshire strike twice, snaring Matt Machan and Ashar Zaidi, and Claydon breaks through again, ousting Gareth Andrew in the same manner he recently accounted for Choudry.
4.41pm – Adil Rashid goes to a half-century in Yorkshire’s strong batting effort and Kent’s Mitchell Claydon has Shaaiq Choudry caught behind, leaving Worcestershire 198 for eight.

4.22pm – Gloucestershire’s Will Tavare, nephew of former England batsman Chris, brings up his maiden first-class hundred in his seventh format game. Well batted the 24-year-old.
4.13pm – It’s tea at Edgbaston where Sussex, on the back of captain Ed Joyce’s unbeaten century, are 162 for three having skittled Warwickshire for 87 and at Chelmsford where Derbyshire are 56 for two in reply to Essex’s paltry 94.
Play resumes in several locations as Gary Balance reaches a fifty and James Tomlinson has Hamish Marshall caught behind.

In the top flight Nottinghamshire are 178 for five facing Middlesex at Lord’s and in Division Two Worcestershire are 186 for seven in their meeting with Kent at New Road.

In Division One Yorkshire are 214 for four versus Somerset at Taunton and Durham are 174 for three against Northamptonshire at Wantage Road.

3.42pm – With tea approaching there’s a flurry of wickets. Hampshire’s South Africa seamer Kyle Abbott strikes twice in three balls, having Klinger caught behind for 81 and therefore ending a stand of 163 with Tavare before likewise ousting Alex Gidman for nought.
Steven Finn snares Mullaney for 52, Sussex’s Rory Hamilton-Brown falls to Oliver Hannon-Dalby and Worcestershire’s Ross Whiteley is bowled by Doug Bollinger for 12.

3.21pm - Masters picks up his second wicket, ousting Stephen Moore for three. Derbyshire are 17 for two on a pitch that has been causing everyone problems all day. The visitors to Chelmsford will hope skipper Wayne Madsen and Shivnarine Chanderpaul can settle their response down.

3.06pm - Mitchell falls agonisingly short of a half-century as he edges Robbie Joseph behing having made 47.
Elsewhere, Sussex have passed Warwickshire's first-innings total and still have eight wickets in hand while Gloucestershire continue to make Hampshire toil at Bristol.
2.56pm - Notts quickly lose another wicket. Harris completes a double-wicket maiden as Samit Patel edges behind. Sussex's second-wicket stand is over with Michael Yardy ousted by Chris Woakes. Despite making just nine, Yardy was a part of a 59-run partnership.
2.53pm - A flurry of wickets around the country. Yorkshire and Worcestershire are both four down, with Adam Lyth out for 85 and Kervezee falling for 54. Nottinghamshire have lost their third wicket, with Taylor trapped in front by James Harris for 62.
2.49pm - David Masters starts the Essex fightback, trapping Billy Godleman lbw for six. Meanwhile Ed Joyce has raced to a half-century at Edgbaston. He currently accounts for 55 of Sussex's 75 runs, having hit 10 fours in his 54-ball knock.
2.35pm - Jennings' stay is over. Maurice Chambers does the trick, ending the Durham opener's 82-run stand with Michael Richardson by finding an outside edge that carries to the slips.
The fifties just keep on coming. Following James Taylor to the landmark is Alexei Kervezee. His partnership with Daryl Mitchell is worth 87 and Worcestershire are looking nicely placed on 146 for three.

At Northampton, Keaton Jennings' patient knock has bene rewarded with a half-century. The reigning champions are 112 for two.

Warwickshire begin their fightback as Keith Barker ousts Luke Wells. Jonathan Trott takes the catch at midwicket.
1.50pm - Will Tavare joins his skipper in making a fifty. Hampshire's decision to put Gloucestershire in to bat is not going to plan.

1.45pm - The lunch break has not done much for Essex as they lose a seventh wicket at the start of the second over of the session. It's Mark Footitt's fourth scalp of the day, with David Masters trapped lbw for nought.
Michael Klinger wastes little time in completing a half-century at Bristol, pickign up singles off the first two balls he faces to reach the landmark. Gloucestershire are 100 for one.

1.10pm - And that rounds off the opening session. here's how things stand at lunch:
Division One
Nottinghamshire are 75 for two having chosen to bat at Lord’s against Middlesex.
Durham are 70 for two having won the toss against Northamptonshire, who are back playing in Division one for the first time since 2004.
Yorkshire are 127 for two against Somerset at Taunton. Adam Lyth has recorded a half-century while his third-wicket partnership with Andrew Gale is worth 56.
Warwickshire have been bowled out for 87 at Edgbaston. Chris Jordan, Steve Magoffin and Jon Lewis each took three wickets for a rampant Sussex. Jonathan Trott’s 37 was as good as it got for the hosts.
Division Two
Tim Groenewald took a hat-trick as Derbyshire have reduced Essex to 60 for seven. Mark Footitt has taken three wickets as Derbyshire begin life in Division Two strongly.
Gloucestershire are 92 for one against Hampshire, with skipper Michael Klinger unbeaten on 48.
Worcestershire are 85 for three , underpinned by Moeen Ali’s quickfire 41, against Kent.
1.07pm - Warwickshire have been bowled out for 87! Jon Lewis wraps things up on a dream morning for Sussex.
12.59pm - Right before lunch Footitt accounts for Graham Napier and Essex are 60 for seven. The Derbyshire and Sussex attacks have definitely been on-song in the morning session.
12.55pm - Nine down! Chris Wright edges Magoffin behind without scoring and Warwickshire are in danger of not seeing out the session. They are 84 for nine and we will have at least one more over before lunch.
12.52pm - Anything Derbyshire can do! Sussex have the big scalp of Trott and Warwickshire are 84 for eight. It's Magoffin who strikes, as Trott chops on to his own timber, and the England batsman is out for 37.
12.51pm - Anything Sussex can do... Derbyshire have Essex reeling on 60 for six. Footitt grabs his second wicket of the morning as he has Westley caught behind for seven.

12.47pm - Warwickshire will be desperate for the lunch break as they lose yet another wicket! Lewis has a second scalp, removing Keith Barker for a duck, to leave Sussex's opponents on 80 for seven. Trott remains at the crease but he is quickly running out of partners.
12.40pm - Things keep getting worse for Warwickshire. Rikki Clarke is bowled by Stave Magoffin for four. Sussex's pace attack now all have wickets and they have caused all sorts of problems for the hosts at Edgbaston this morning.
It's slow going for Durham at Northamptonshire, with the first 25 overs yielding just 47 runs. Jennings has scored 16 having faced 72 balls.

12.33pm - Lyth has recorded a fifty at Taunton and taken Yorkshire into three figures. The 26-year-old will look to go on to a big score from here.
12.29pm - HAT-TRICK! Groenewald's appeal for lbw against Ben Foakes is successful. Superb bowling from the 30-year-old and Essex are struggling massively now. James Foster survives the final ball of a triple-wicket maiden and will need to help rebuild his side's innings with Tom Westley.
12.22pm - Sussex have Warwickshire five down! Jon Lewis strikes to remove Tim Ambrose for 20 and James Anyon traps Chris Woakes lbw for three in the next over. Warwickshire are in big trouble on 67 for five. Trott is unbeaten on 30 but needs some support.
Essex also lose two quick wickets as Groenewald strikes twice in as many balls. Ravi Bopara and Greg Smith have been sent on their way, leaving Essex 54 for four.

12.17pm - Moeen Ali has provided fireworks in his stay at the crease but his innings is over after being bowled by Darren Stevens. Moeen hit 41 from just 37 balls, including eight fours and a six.
And Stevens strikes again in the same over! Tom Kohler-Cadmore lasts just two balls before being rapped on his pads. All of a sudden Worcestershire are 59 for three.
12.12pm - Durham lose a second wicket as Andrew Hall traps Scott Borthwick lbw for 20. The reigning champions are 40 for two and Michael Richardson joins Keaton Jennings at the crease.

11.53am - Somerset finally have something to smile about. Craig Meschede celebrates his first wicket of the 2014 campaign by bowling Lees for 34. But that opening partnership of 69 is a decent platform for Yorkshire to build on.

11.44am - Jordan is on fire! He has a third scalp and it's a big one as stand-in skipper Bell falls without scoring, edging to third slip where Ed Joyce holds well down low. Jordan has taken 3-6 so far today and Warwickshire are in a spot of bother.
Essex lose their first wicket as Jaik Mickleburgh has his off-stump uprooted by Mark Footitt. That means Yorkshire are the only side not to have a man dismissed so far. Alex Lees and Adam Lyth have rocketed the White Rose to 61 without loss at Taunton.

11.35am - The wickets continue to come in twos! Middlesex have made the breakthrough at Lord's, with James Harris having Phil Jaques caught behind after making 14. Warwickshire are two down at Edgbaston as Jordan strikes again, removing Laurie Evans for four. The hosts are 16 for two and will look to Trott and Ian Bell to steady their innings.
11.27am - The bowlers are starting to make inroads. Chris Dent can make just six before James Tomlinson cleans him up - the left-armer's 300th first-class wicket for Hampshire - while Doug Bollinger has his first Kent wicket, trapping Matthew Pardoe lbw at New Road.
11.15am - That's not the start reigning champions Durham will have expected. Mark Stoneman leaves one that darts back from Muhammad Azhar Ullah having made two. Warwickshire have also lost an early wicket, Varun Chopra falling to Chris Jordan in the fourth over. That brings Jonathan Trott to the crease.

11.10am - Michael Klinger has helped himself to a couple of early boundaries at Bristol. It's a much quieter start elsewhere, with the openers looking to knuckle down for a day of batting. Alastair Cook will be looking for a statement innings at Chelmsford.
11am - And we're off! Every game has started on time. Let's hope this becomes a regular occurrence throughout the 2014 season.
10.53am - Chris Rogers will lead out Middlesex at Lord's shortly. In this morning's Sunday Times the 36-year-old hinted at a possible retirement following the 2015 Ashes series. If this is to be his last full season with Middlesex, he'll be itching for a title challenge and a good start against Notts today.

LV= County Championship Division One facts:
- Warwickshire have not lost a home championship match to Sussex since 1982, winning 10 and drawing 12 of the 22 since.
- The seven championship matches between Northamptonshire and Durham at Wantage Road have produced four home wins, two draws and one away win.
- Middlesex’s last eight home championship matches against Nottinghamshire have produced one win apiece and six draws.
- The three highest scores of 2013 came in Yorkshire matches. Alex Lees and Andrew Gale hit 275* and 272 versus Derbyshire and Notts respectively, while Chesney Hughes scored 270* against Yorkshire.
- The six highest championship totals of 2013 were recorded in Division One. Yorkshire were involved in five of these, scoring 677, 617 and 572, while being on the receiving end of Surrey’s 634 and Durham’s 573.
LV= County Championship Division Two facts
- Gloucestershire’s last eight home championship matches against Hampshire have produced one win apiece and six draws.
- Worcestershire have lost one of their last 13 home championship matches against Kent, winning five and drawing seven in that time.
- Derbyshire’s victory on their last trip to Essex, in 2012, ended a run of 34 away championship matches at Essex without a win (20 defeats, 14 draws).
- Hampshire’s Jimmy Adams was the only batsman to hit two championship double-centuries in last season, against Worcestershire and Northamptonshire.
