England seamer Graham Onions has recommitted to his sole county by signing a two-year contract extension with LV= County Champions Durham until the end of the 2017 season.
The 31-year-old, who made his first-class debut in 2004 for Durham, was last year’s leading wicket-taker in county cricket. Over the last two championship seasons he has claimed a staggering 134 scalps, averaging over five strikes per match.
Onions has taken 32 wickets in his nine Tests and four in as many one-day internationals, the last of which was the 2012 Edgbaston Test with West Indies.
Onions, who has recovered from a foot problem, said: "I am obviously delighted to have signed for another two years at Durham.
“Last season was magnificent, and to play a part in such an amazing team effort is something that will stay with me for a long time.
“I still get an enormous sense of pride playing for my local county and, with the crop of young players coming through, I'm confident we can have lots of success in the future. These are exciting times at Durham, and it's great to be a part of it all."
Durham head coach Jon Lewis added: "Graham's contribution to the success of Durham Cricket cannot be underestimated.
“His bowling record speaks for itself, but he is also a key figure in the dressing room and the example he sets the younger bowlers in particular is invaluable.
“To have someone of Graham's stature in our squad for the next few seasons will be a massive asset."
