Anya Shrubsole, a runner-up in the Women’s World Twenty20 final, had the consolation of being named player of the tournament.

The seamer snared Australia opener Jess Jonassen to take her wicket-tally in the competition to 13, three more than anyone else, at an average of 7.53.

The 22-year-old, playing in her third World T20, led England’s attack throughout the tournament in the absence of Katherine Brunt.

Collecting her trophy at the post-match presentation, Shrubsole said: “It is clearly disappointing to finish as runner-up, but we got to the final, which is a wonderful achievement.

“To be named as women’s player of the tournament is humbling, and it is also a reflection of the hard work we’ve all put in as a team. I would have loved for us to win the title, but it wasn’t to be for us this year.”
