MCC calls for England stars

Several England players past and present will play for MCC Women in the Lord’s Bicentenary match against a Rest of the World XI on May 19.

In a team managed by former MCC committee member and England captain Baroness Heyhoe-Flint, current players Charlotte Edwards, Sarah Taylor, Heather Knight, Natalie Sciver, Jenny Gunn, Kate Cross, Holly Colvin and Danni Hazell will all feature.

Danni Hazell and Charlotte Edwards are among eight current England players to be named in the MCC side to face a Rest of the World XI at Lord’s on May 19

They are joined in the side, which will be coached by England boss Paul Shaw, by former internationals Claire Taylor, now chair of MCC women’s sub committee, Arran Brindle and Isa Guha.

Australia duo Ellyse Perry and Meg Lanning as well as West Indies pair Stafanie Taylor and Deandra Dottin are the headline names included in the Rest of the World XI.

MCC president Mike Gatting said: “MCC is very pleased to have secured the services of so many top-class cricketers for this match, and I’m sure we will see a fixture of the highest quality.

“This is the first chance that many will have had to see some of wonderful talent around in the women’s game and I hope as many cricket fans as possible take the chance to enjoy this match and to celebrate the bicentenary of the current Lord’s ground.”

England Women skipper Edwards added: “Lord’s is such a special place to play cricket and I can’t wait to help MCC celebrate the current ground’s bicentenary by taking part in this game.

“Some of the best female cricketers in the world are going to be on show and it’s the perfect opportunity to show the cricketing world the quality within the women’s game.”

MCC Women XI: Charlotte Edwards, Claire Taylor, Arran Brindle, Isa Guha, Sarah Taylor, Heather Knight, Natalie Sciver, Jenny Gunn, Holly Colvin, Kathryn Cross, Danni Hazell.

Rest of the World Women XI: Meg Lanning, Ellyse Perry (both Australia), Mithali Raj, Jhulan Goswami (both India), Suzie Bates, Rachel Priest (both New Zealand), Sana Mir (Pakistan), Marizanne Kapp (South Africa), Shashikala Siriwardene (Sri Lanka), Stefanie Taylor, Deandra Dottin (both West Indies).
