Paceman Stuart Meaker produced an astonishing burst of 6-6 to leave Surrey in control after day one against Cambridge MCCU at Fenner's.
Meaker, who has represented England in the limited overs formats on four occasions, put down a startling early season marker as his raw speed proved too much and Cambridge collapsed to 54 all out.
Responding to Surrey’s 218 having won the toss, the hosts were immediately in trouble as Meaker uprooted captain James Johnson’s off-stump.
In his next set of six, the 25-year-old trapped Adil Arif lbw when offering no stroke by the time Tim Linley bowled Alex Hearne through the gate the score was 13 for three, the procession irreversibly under way.
Nipuna Senaratne was one of only two players to reach double figures before Meaker pinned him in front to complete his remarkable haul.
Earlier, number three Zafar Ansari top scored for Surrey with 54 but he was not required again as openers Rory Burns and Dominic Sibley negotiated a solitary over to close on five without loss.

Half-centuries by Stephen Moore – a winter recruit from Lancashire – and Billy Godleman, along with 42 from skipper Wayne Madsen ensured Derbyshire were firmly on top with 283 for three at stumps.
Another captain in the runs was Sussex’s Ed Joyce, who compiled 103 against Loughborough MCCU at the BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground.
Matt Machan top scored with 119 and wicketkeeper Ben Brown weighed in to the tune of 85 – an overnight declaration appearing a likely scenario with the score 421 for nine.

Having been put in, Walters scored almost half of Glamorgan’s 301 for four declared – Chris Cook contributing 63 in a stand of 153 for the third wicket.
Seamer Will Owen grabbed a pair of wickets as Cardiff stumbled to 34 for three in response.
Adam Lyth will resume five runs shy of a half-century having move Yorkshire to 94 for one against Leeds/Bradford MCCU at Headingley.
The visitors were asked to bat and their 139 all out – leg-spinning all-rounder Adil Rashid the pick with 3-8 as the White Rose shared wickets around – might have been a good deal worse but for an unbeaten 60 by captain William Vandesrspar.
Nottinghamshire were dismissed for 237 by Oxford MCCU at the University Parks, opener Sam Kelsall the only batsman to pass 50 amid handy contributions from Chris Read, Ajmal Shezhad and Jake Ball.
New ball duo Luke Fletcher and Harry Gurney claimed a wicket apiece as Oxford closed on 30 for two.
