Former England Women Head Coach Mark Lane has taken a post with LV= County Championship Division One team Middlesex.

Lane will serve as director of the Middlesex central academy, beginning his new role later this month.

Mark Lane led England Women to Ashes glory and ICC global event success and he will now front Middlesex's new academy

Appointed as England Women’s coach in 2008, Lane immediately led the side to success in the 2008 and 2009 Ashes campaigns while also masterminding triumphant World Cup and World Twenty20 campaigns in the latter year.

The position at Middlesex comes as a result of a new partnership between the county and both Brondesbury and Primrose Hill Cricket Clubs that will see the creation of a new regional cricket academy based in central London.

“I am delighted with the new role and am excited about the opportunities that lay ahead,” Lane said.

“I am looking forward to working closely with Brondesbury and Primrose Hill Cricket Clubs, plus all of the clubs within the two regional boroughs under my responsibility, and to helping to develop successful player pathways for the next generation of Middlesex cricketers.”

Middlesex chief executive Vinny Codrington added: “Middlesex is strongly committed to a programme of developing talented young cricketers within the county, to ultimately provide a flow of elite cricketers to the county side and national sides for years to come.

“The significant investment we’ve made in our regional cricket academy programme has already started to yield exceptional results and thanks to our partnership with Brondesbury and Primrose Hill Cricket Clubs, and under the stewardship of someone of Mark Lane’s undoubted quality, we’re looking forward to our central regional academy delivering equal measures of success.”
