India cruised to a seven-wicket win against rivals Pakistan in the first Super 10 match of the World Twenty20 in Dhaka.
The 2007 winners encountered few problems chasing 131, as Shikhar Dhawan, who made 30, laid the foundations before Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina's 66-run stand secured the first Group Two game with nine balls to spare.
Plenty of Pakistan batsmen made starts, but none went on beyond Umar Akmal’s 33 after MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to field - only a late 21 from Sohaib Maqsood got them to 130 for seven after they were pegged back at regular intervals.
Spinner Amit Mishra was the pick of the India bowlers with 2-22 from his four overs.
Rohit Sharma and Dhawan then added 54 for the first wicket to put India in control, before the latter fell to Umar Gul.
A mini-collapse ensued, with Rohit and Yuvraj Singh falling within the space of four balls to leave India 64 for three.
However, Kohli and Raina always had the required rate under control and proceeded to compile unbeaten knocks of 36 and 35 respectively.
The win makes India the early pacesetters in Group 2, with holders West Indies their next opponents on Sunday.
Pakistan need to beat Australia, also on Sunday, to retain any realistic ambition of progressing to the semi-final.
