Meg Lanning impressed as defending champions Australia beat Sri Lanka in a World Twenty20 warm-up

Defending Women's World Twenty20 champions Australia made an impressive start to their pre-tournament warm-up fixtures with a 19-run victory over Sri Lanka.

Meg Lanning’s 43 and a quickfire 30 from Jess Cameron underpinned the Southern Stars’ total of 144 for five, and Jess Jonassen’s 2-5 from three overs ensured Sri Lanka could only manage 125 for five in reply.

In the day’s other matches, there were victories for West Indies and New Zealand.

Stefanie Taylor’s 43 helped the Windies to 123 for four against South Africa, who were then skittled for a meagre 71 in response.

Anisa Mohammed and Deandra Dottin both claimed two cheap wickets for the Caribbean side.

It was clearly a good day to bat first in Savar, the venue for all three games, with New Zealand’s 138 for four proving 17 runs too many for India.

Mithali Raj made a half-century before retiring hurt, but Morna Nielsen’s 3-9 guided the White Ferns to a comfortable victory.
