Ravi Bopara and Stuart Broad kept their cool as England overcame a significant wobble to chase 160 and level the one-day international series against West Indies.
The tourists, needing a win following their defeat on Friday, appeared in complete control having reached 72 for two in pursuit of a modest total.
But Michael Lumb, who had followed a debut century with a solid 39, was trapped plumb in front by Nikita Miller to spark a collapse.
In the next over, Dwayne Bravo grabbed wickets with successive balls, taking a return catch off Joe Root and having Jos Buttler caught behind.
Miller then got rid of Ben Stokes, who inside-edged a delivery that looped up to offer Denesh Ramdin a simple chance, before Bravo brilliantly ran out Tim Bresnan.
Yet, with West Indies suddenly favourites, Bopara mixed good running with some authoritative drives to spark a turnaround.
Finding support from skipper Broad, who struck 28 not out, the number seven hit a fine unbeaten 38 as the tourists edged home by three wickets.
Earlier, England's spinners put West Indies to the sword after Broad chose to bowl.
From the moment Root grabbed the early scalp of Dwayne Smith, the tourists' battery of slow bowlers were in complete control.
Only Lendl Simmons, whose 70 represented a second successive half-century, got going as England moved in position to level the three-match series at 1-1 with a game to play.
West Indies slumped to 159 all out, with debutant Stephen Parry having claimed three wickets and Root plus James Tredwell two each amid Broad, Bresnan and Moeen Ali grabbing one apiece.

8.52pm - Stephen Parry is man of the match for his three wickets on international debut. He said: “It’s one of the proudest moments of my life. Six months ago I didn’t think I’d be on the tour.”
Victorious skipper Stuart Broad said: “(We’re) delighted to have won. We made it quite hard work for ourselves.
“We got off to a nice start (with the bat) and had a little wobble, but (it was) great to get over the line in the end.”
On Ravi Bopara’s unbeaten 38, Broad added: “That’s what Ravi’s batting a seven for. We know he’s a good finisher.”
Defeated captain Dwayne Bravo said: “That’s a poor batting display two games in a row. I expected better second time around.
“I’m happy with how we bowled, but we were let down by the batters.”
England Innings
VICTORY! Terrific performance from @StuartBroad8& @ravibopara to get England over the line. Tough match and credit to the Windies. 1-1.

8.31pm - ENGLAND WIN BY THREE WICKETS!!! ENGLAND 163/7; Bopara 38, Broad 28 - Broad finishes the job with a crunching off-side four and lets out an impassioned cry. That's a big win, with 31 balls to spare, for England, which levels the ODI series with a game to play.
8.22pm - Just seven to win now. This has been impressive stuff from Broad and Bopara, who have shared a fifty partnership.
8.15pm - England will take that! Broad edges Narine just short of slip and the ball runs away for four. Thirteen to win.
8.07pm - Some good work from Bopara and Broad has taken England to within 20 runs of victory. Can they hold their nerve?
7.52pm - MISSED CHANCES! - Three let-offs in quick succession for Stuart Broad… A top-edged pull of Rampaul falls just in front of Kirk Edwards before Bravo parries an edge to slip and, in the next over, Kieran Powell badly misjudges the ball's flight and the batsman ends up with four when he could easily have departed. In between those, Bopara gloriously drove Sammy to the fence.
7.40pm - Glorious stroke from Bopara, who punches Darren Sammy for four off the back foot.
REVIEW: Broad given out caught behind but he is no doubt that he missed it. #WIvEng

7.30pm - WICKET! Bresnan run out Bravo 10; Eng 105/7 - That's the last thing England needed. They cannot keep Bravo out of the game; the Windies skipper makes a diving stop at midwicket and throws to Ramdin, who whips off the bails with Bresnan well short of his ground.
7.27pm - A rare boundary comes for the tourists as Tim Bresnan drives Rampaul down the ground. He and Ravi Bopara have played responsibly so far.
7.13pm - Subdued stuff from England as they attempt to steady the ship. The dangerous Narine has just returned with an over that costs just one.
7.01pm - WICKET! Stokes c Ramdin b Miller; Eng 89/6 - Another wicket falls as Ben Stokes inside-edges on to his pad and watches the ball loop into Denesh Ramdin's hands. The umpire didn't look like he would give it out but the batsman walked.
A welcome boundary as @ravibopara punches through the off-side. Classy shot that. 89/5. #WIvEng

6.46pm - WICKET! Buttler c Ramdin b Bravo; Eng 81/5 - Jos Buttler goes first ball, gloving an excellent Bravo bouncer down the leg side.
6.44pm - WICKET! Root c & b Bravo; Eng 81/4 - And now Root goes too as Dwayne Bravo takes a fine, low return catch from a powerful straight drive.
6.40pm - WICKET! Lumb lbw Miller 39; Eng 79/3 - A quicker one from Nikita Miller does for Lumb, who is trapped plumb lbw when camped on the back foot.
6.25pm - Runs are starting to come a little more freely now as Root settles alongside Lumb. England are well on top at 71 for two.
Lovely glance from Lumb reaches he ropes, England move on to 55/2. Narine a real challenge at one end though. Spin both ways. #WIvEng
— England Cricket (@ECB_cricket) March 2, 2014
6.05pm - Testing times for Joe Root and Lumb as Narine, in particular, causes problems.
5.51pm - WICKET! Wright b Narine 0; Eng 30/2 - Nervous times for England, who are simply not picking Sunil Narine. Having been bamboozled for much of the over, Luke Wright succumbs as a delivery beats his edge and locates off stump.
5.46pm - WICKET! Moeen c Miller b Rampaul 10; Eng 29/1 - England lose a first wicket as Moeen pulls Rampaul straight to deep square-leg.
5.43pm - England are off to a solid start with Lumb and Moeen Ali looking in good order.
Beautiful shot from Moeen as he drives through the off-side. Four more and England starting well again - 15/0 from 3 overs. #WIvEng
— England Cricket (@ECB_cricket) March 2, 2014
5.24pm - Cracking start from England as Michael Lumb, who struck a debut ton in the first game of the series, confidently drives Dwayne Bravo through point for four.
West Indies Innings
4.33pm - WICKET & END OF INNINGS! Rampaul c Lumb b Tredwell 1; West Indies 159 all out, Miller 2 - The innings comes to an end as Ravi Rampaul strikes Tredwell straight down the throat of Michael Lumb. England will expect to chase 160 comfortably.
4.23pm - WICKET! Narine st Buttler b Parry; WI 155/9 - Sunil Narine comes in and immediately launches Parry over mid-off for four. He cannot repeat the trick next ball, though, as Buttler easily whips off the bails.
4.21pm - WICKET! Sammy c Broad b Parry 3; WI 151/8 - And now Darren Sammy pulls Parry straight to midwicket, where Broad claims a juggling catch.
4.14pm - WICKET! Ramdin b Bresnan 5; WI 151/7 - Things go from bad to worse for the hosts as a Tim Bresnan delivery keeps low and castles Denesh Ramdin via an inside edge.
4.03pm - WICKET! Simmons c Stokes b Parry 70; WI 145/6 - That's a poor dismissal. The ball after slog-sweeping Stephen Parry for six, Simmons holes out attempting a repeat to give the debutant a maiden international wicket.
3.54pm - WICKET! Bravo st Buttler b Tredwell 20; WI 133/5 - Given! Replays show Jos Buttler still had the ball and Bravo has to go. Big wicket for England, especially given it came just before the batting powerplay.
WICKET? Tredwell fires one leg-side and beats Bravo, Buttler gathers but may have lost the ball at the moment of taking the bails off...
— England Cricket (@ECB_cricket) March 2, 2014
3.42pm - FIFTY! Simmons (83b 4x4 0x6) - Simmons brings up a fine half-century - his second in as many games - the over after Dwayne Bravo strikes the first boundary in a while.

3.18pm - Strike rotation is paramount for West Indies now as they attempt to build a launching pad.
Dwayne Bravo is back up and read to continue. Thought he may have to leave the field but he seems ok. #WIvEng
— England Cricket (@ECB_cricket) March 2, 2014
Broad has come back in venomous form…he's taken a wicket and has now struck Bravo with a nasty bumper. He looks in trouble here.
— England Cricket (@ECB_cricket) March 2, 2014
2.56pm - WICKET! Bravo b Broad 13; WI 81/4 - Poor shot from Bravo, who tries to cut a delivery that was too straight but plays on.
2.45pm - Things have dried up a little since the aforementioned boundaries with England keeping it tight.
2.28pm - Good response from Lendl Simmons and Darren Bravo. The former cuts four off Tredwell, who is then hammered over long-on for six by the latter.
2.22pm - Cracking stuff from England and Broad, who is keeping the field up as his spinners continue to impress.
Fantastic start from England and in particular their spinners. 30/3 in the 9th over. #WIvEng
— England Cricket (@ECB_cricket) March 2, 2014
2.02pm - WICKET! Edwards c Tredwell b Root 9; WI 30/3 - Another one bites the dust as Kirk Edwards edges Root to slip, where James Tredwell takes a stunning one-handed catch.
1.59pm - WICKET! Powell c & b Moeen 16; WI 30/2 - Another wicket falls to spin as Powell, who had looked good, clips one that turns straight back to Moeen Ali.
1.48pm – We may not see a better shot all day. Powell leans into a wonderful cover-drive which races to the fence off Broad.
CHANCE! Bresnan at leg-slip can't hang on as Edwards glances. Tough but he looks disappointed. #WIvEng
— England Cricket (@ECB_cricket) March 2, 2014
1.40pm - WICKET! Smith c Wright b Root 5; WI 10/1 - Golden arm Root does it again! The over after Kieran Powell gets the first boundary by cutting Stuart Broad, Dwayne Smith clips the off-spinner straight to short midwicket.
Huge shout for lbw from @StuartBroad8 but they decide against the review. Close but probably pitched outside leg. #WIvEng

1.35pm - Joe Root opens the bowling and sends down a solid first over that goes for just three runs.
Pre-Play News
1.28pm - Here we go then. We are almost ready for the action.
England team - Lumb, Ali, Wright, Root, Stokes, Buttler, Bopara, Bresnan, Broad, Tredwell, Parry

1.04pm - ENGLAND WIN THE TOSS AND BOWL - Stuart Broad calls correctly and chooses to put the Windies in. The tourists have brought Parry in for Chris Jordan, while West Indies have also included an extra spinner with Nikita Miller deputising for Jason Holder.
12.52pm - The word from the ground is that left-arm tweaker Stephen Parry has been handed his cap. Unsurprisingly, with England playing on a surface used on Friday that showed signs of taking big spin, they are bolstering their options in that department.
12.45pm - Hello and welcome to ecb.co.uk's live coverage of the second one-day international against West Indies. England are 1-0 behind in the rubber and need to emerge victorious to keep their hopes alive.
