Justin Dill and captain Aiden Markram starred as South Africa eased past neighbours Zimbabwe to book their place in the quarter-finals of the ICC Under-19 World Cup.
Dill was the pick of the Proteas seam attack with 4-35 as Zimbabwe were dismissed for 198 – a total that was never likely to prevent Markram and his men from racking up three wins from three in the group stages.
The skipper led the way 120 not out from the top of the order. He was joined by Yaseen Valli, with Zimbabwe scenting a way back into the match as the score fell to 54 for three in the 12th over.
The in-form Valli settled in nicely alongside Markram and became the tournament’s top run-scorer with an unbeaten 53 and the duo rounded off a seven-wicket win with 11 overs to spare.
West Indies were the other team to plot a successful route from Group C thanks to a 63-run triumph over minnows Canada.
Tagenarine Chanderpaul claimed the match award for the second time in succession – consolation for falling as he did seven runs shy of three figures.
Nicolas Pooran clubbed 67 from 41 deliveries to help the Windies post 289 for four from their 50 overs.
Canada struggled to stay with the rate despite half-centuries from captain Nitish Kumar and Nikhil Dutta, and after Tahla Shaikh was run out for 45 their remaining six wickets tumbled for just 29 runs.
Elsewhere, Sri Lanka secured qualification from Group D through an eight-wicket win over hosts UAE.
Having put on a watchful 51 for the first wicket and benefitted from a 77-ball 69 by number Shorye Chopra, UAE fell some way short of a competitive total as their last 52 wickets added only 52.
The result was 205 all out as Anuk Fernando, Harsha Rajapaksha and Binura Fernando took two wickets apiece.
Unconcerned by the early loss of opening partner Sadeera Samarawickrama, Hashan Dumindu compiled a rapid hundred and was unbeaten on 113 by the time Sri Lanka easily reeled in their target.
