Tammy Beaumont produced a captain's innings as England Women's Academy edged to victory over a Sri Lanka Cricket Women's XI at Colombo's Premadasa Stadium.
In a game where no other batter passed 30, Beaumont struck 69 as the second-string reached 157 all out after 45 overs.
That proved more than substantial, Sonia Odedra and Stephanie Butler claiming three wickets apiece to dismiss the hosts for 118 and seal a 39-run win.
From the moment EWA were asked to bat, it was Beaumont who led the way from the top of the order.
Her innings held the tourists together, crucially adding 75 with Alex McDonald who made 20 before and Carla Rudd’s 16 ultimately took EWA beyond 150.
Any thoughts that such a score would not be sufficient were soon extinguished as Odedra starred with the ball.
The hosts quickly found themselves 59 for seven and, despite an unbeaten 26 from Dharshani Dharmasiri, the Women's Academy won the first of two 50-over encounters.
