Moeen Ali is understandably excited after being chosen in England’s squads for the World Twenty20 and tour of the Caribbean.
Moeen, a fluent batsman capable of bowling more than useful off-spin, will be hoping to make his international debut in the West Indies, where England will play three Twenty20s and as many ODIs from the end of this month.
For now, though, the 26-year-old is basking in just being in the selectors’ thoughts as England begin a new era following their disappointing tour of Australia.
He told ecb.co.uk: “I got a call from James Whitaker and it was a nice phone call. I felt great and was really happy for my family and Worcestershire.
“Obviously you cannot describe how you feel. It was a good feeling and I cannot wait to get out there.
“I have got loads of messages saying ‘congrats’ from family, friends and even people I don’t really speak to. Hopefully I can get selected in the future as well.”
Moeen is desperate to get his opportunity against the Windies, especially with the sprint-format showpiece hot on the heels of that trip.
He added: “I think I can add a bit of variety; a bit of batting, bowling and fielding. I do all three dimensions of the game.
“We obviously want success as a team at the World Cup. In the West Indies, I just want to get used to the setup and play a few games.”
