Lancashire bowler Kate Cross will stay with the England Women’s squad for the three Ashes Twenty20 Internationals.
Cross was originally selected for the opening Test and three one-day internationals against Australia, but will now replace fast bowler Katherine Brunt in the squad for the full duration of the tour.
Brunt, who has suffered a recurrence of a previous lower-back injury, has been ruled out for the rest of the Ashes series and will return to England for treatment.
Head of England Women’s Performance Paul Shaw said: “To lose a proven world-class performer like Katherine Brunt from the squad is unquestionably disappointing; however, we are in a very strong position to be able to keep Kate Cross with the team for the remainder of this Women’s Ashes tour.
"Kate bowled superbly on Test debut in Perth. She is in a rich vein of form with the ball, and this is a great opportunity for her to show-off her skills in the shortest format of the game during the three T20s, staring in Hobart on 29th January.
“Katherine will fly home shortly to undergo the necessary treatment and rehabilitation work to get back to full fitness.”
