Watch our video with Sam Robson as he looked ahead to the England Lions tour

Sam Robson is refusing to get carried away as people continue to link his name with an England place.

With changes to the Test side expected following the recent 5-0 Ashes defeat, Robson is among those vying for a spot.

The hype is understandable, too, given the Middlesex man struck two centuries in Australia with the England Performance Programme.

That followed up his sensational LV= County Championship campaign and further enhanced his burgeoning reputation.

Robson told ecb.co.uk: “It is always nice when people say nice things about you but, in many respects for me, it really is a case of trying to keep doing the sort of things I’ve been doing.

“I’ve just got to try and keep working hard and improving really. That’s been my thing over the last few years, to keep improving, and we’ll see where that takes me.

Sam Robson, who was so impressive for Middlesex last season, will not get complacent despite being tipped for a Test debut

“I am not trying to think too far ahead and I know there are a lot of guys who have performed year in and year out ahead of me in the pecking order.

“I am just enjoying being in the set-up and seeing how it all works. I am enjoying playing cricket and hopefully that can continue.”

Chief among Robson’s thoughts right now is a trip to Sri Lanka with the Lions as he aims to continue to make the right impression.

“It is very exciting,” he admitted. “The EPP camp in Australia before Christmas was really beneficial to my game and I think everyone would say the same.

“To go to Sri Lanka, where conditions will obviously be pretty foreign to what we’re used to, will obviously be really exciting.”

As Robson eludes to, the challenge that awaits will be completely different to what he faced Down Under.

“I’ve been to India and Pakistan five or six years ago so it will be my first experience in Asia for a while, revealed Robson.

“There are obviously different challenges and the cricket will be played differently to how it is here in England.

“But, having said that, it is just another game. It’s about trying to do the basics right and doing what I normally do.

“Whatever happens, it will be a good experience and it will just be good to see what it is like I suppose.”
