Former England and Yorkshire batsman Anthony McGrath has taken on a mentoring role with his sole county.

McGrath, who captained the White Rose for part of his 17-year playing career, retired from all cricket at the end of the 2012 season, having featured 619 times for Yorkshire and on 18 occasions for his country.

The 38-year-old will work in several areas, including age-group coaching, mentoring professional players, facilitating change from cricket to the workplace and the reintegration of younger former players to the club.

Anthony McGrath scored a total of 14,698 first-class runs for Yorkshire, whom he has now returned to in a mentoring role

"It is great to be back in the fold at Yorkshire," said McGrath, who will take up his duties with immediate effect in a consulting capacity.

"I have some close friends - both on the playing and management side respectively - and feel my skills and experience can benefit all aspects of cricket.

"I will be looking to get involved with a cross-section of the playing department, from offering coaching to the young players trying to make the grade to mentoring those players that are getting close to retirement.

"Since my retirement a couple of years ago, I have learnt so much about life away from the game and it can be a difficult transition. Certainly my experiences and knowledge on how I came to terms with a new career can help those players that are starting to look at their future beyond professional cricket."

Yorkshire director of cricket Martyn Moxon said: "It'll be great to have Mags (McGrath) available to work with and mentor our young players. His vast experience and knowledge allied to a recent playing career will be invaluable in helping us bring through the next generation of Yorkshire cricketers."

Chief executive Mark Arthur added: "In the first six months I have been with Yorkshire, it is obvious what great respect people have for Anthony as a person and as a coach. We are fortunate to be able to tap into his range of abilities, which will undoubtedly help us thrive.

"We will be hiring his services on a consultancy basis throughout the year. With his vast knowledge and a superb career as a highly-respected first-class player, our young players will be able to learn from the best about the intricacies of playing at the highest level."
