England Women got their Ashes defence off to the perfect start by wrapping up a victory in the sole Test.
In the second multi-format series of its kind, following on from Charlotte Edwards’ side regaining the urn this summer, victory in the four-day game is worth a huge six points.
That means England, who claimed the final five wickets quickly as Australia fell to a 61-run defeat, are very much in the driving seat.
Each game, three one-day internationals and as many Twenty20s, secure the victors two points from here on in, meaning the tourists are just a pair of wins away from another triumph.
It was Australia, resuming on 57 for five in pursuit of 185, who began the day in command as Ellyse Perry prospered.
The number seven profited on some overpitched bowling as 36 runs came from the first five overs to swing the momentum.
However, Anya Shrubsole got two key breakthroughs, Perry hitting straight to square-leg for 31 and Erin Osborne offering a simple catch to cover off a leading edge.
Things went from bad to worse thereafter as Australia lost their third wicket for the addition of just seven runs when Sarah Coyte was trapped lbw by Jenny Gunn.
Shrubsole grabbed her third wicket, and seventh of the match, when bowling Rene Farrell before Katherine Brunt wrapped things up by castling Sarah Elliott for 29.
