All set for the Women's Ashes

Regular blogger Jenny Gunn posts on England's preparations for the Women's Ashes, the heat and her room-mate's poor efforts at FIFA.

We had a two-day match against the Shooting Stars as our main preparation ahead of the Test match.

Even during the warm-up it was safe to say that the temperature had increased from the first few days of tour - and it was just the casual 36 degrees!

We had a good run out against the Shooting Stars and are well set for the Women's Ashes Test at the WACACricketing etiquette normally allows the touring side to bat first, which we were all happy about, especially in that heat.

Trev (Heather Knight), coming back from time out of the game through injury, picked up where she left off with a strong batting performance.

Her and Lottie put on a hundred partnership for the first wicket, which was a great way to start the tour.

Lottie was out for 77 but Trev kept pushing on and brought up her century just before tea. She was eventually retired out for 123 to end a fine innings.

Lydia Greenway then struck a patient 76 as we were finally were bowled out for 386.

Arriving at the ground on day two we were pleased to find that the temperature had dropped by 10 degrees. I was close to asking for a jumper when the sun wasn't out!

Katherine Brunt came charging in and it didn't take her long before she was challenging the batters and causing them problems, even forcing one of them to hit the deck from a sharp bouncer.

We didn't, however, get a breakthrough until after lunch when Danni Hazell managed to trap Rachael Haynes lbw. From here we had a bit of a run and took three quick scalps, which, on a slow wicket that seemed to be getting flatter, was a top effort from the bowlers.

We couldn't quite take the last few wickets and the match ended in a draw, but it was a good run out - especially when a few of our players haven't been on grass for a few months.

We had our first day off following the match and I didn't really want to go out in the heat again so decided to chill out in my room.

My roomie Georgia Elwiss decided to put the Xbox on and we had a go on FIFA. It's safe to say Georgia isn't the greatest player and she spent most of the time running off the pitch. I think we will just stick to cricket.

We are now off to our last training session at the WACA before the Test match, where 43 degrees has been forecast.
